WHAT’S GOOD: JOE BORUCHOW

Walking around Philly, you’ve certainly seen Joe Boruchow’s cut paper work; Large scale murals on walls, wheatpastes on mailboxes. He’s been exploring the medium of paper cutouts since the early 2000s, originally making posters for his band at the time. As his technique developed, he found he could cover more ground by photocopying the fragile works and wheatpasting the images as uncommissioned public art around the city, while still retaining a fine art object. In a gallery setting, Joe is able to display the original cut-outs, surprising viewers with their delicate intricacy. His work focuses on city life and political metaphor.
