To the yellow house on 11th Street,
I’ve only ever seen it in passing, but when I do, my spirit lifts. In a sea of brown brick and grey pavement, it dares to be a beacon of sunshine yellow.
Sunshine yellow, sunflower yellow, bright and unapologetic. It stands out like a neon sign. Delightful and peculiar. So lovely it breaks your heart a little, and makes you wish you had that kind of confidence.
It’s comforting to imagine that the people who chose such a bold and happy color are living a happy life inside the house, and that they chose to share that happiness with the world. Because to see the yellow house is to be happy, just for a second.
And maybe that’s the message. Maybe the yellow house is calling out, “happiness is a choice- as simple as choosing a paint color.” A reminder to each passerby to be more like the yellow house in a sea of brown brick.
Love,
Annabelle
