WHAT’S GOOD: SHELLY HORST

After leaving corporate fashion jobs in 2018, Shelly and her husband Dryw embarked on a cross country road trip and began collecting vintage treasures along the way. Upon her return to Philadelphia, she set up the back bedroom of her house as a vintage shop, and thus, Room Shop was born. The business eventually evolved from selling vintage to producing ethereal, handmade hair and bag accessories, and is now run out of a gorgeous appointment-only studio in the Bok building. Room Shop has been featured in Vogue and Harper’s. Their products are made in small batches, and they strive for zero waste.

We asked Shelly to share some of her favorite spots around Philly.

Spotlight a Philly shop that you think is doing something genuinely interesting right now.
I’m really enamored with Aiyah in Fairmount right now. Their shop curation is beautiful, and once a month they put together a market in the Secret Garden behind the shop, where local vendors sell, musicians perform, and there’s a cute little chill-out spot with a fire pit. We’ve participated several times, and it’s a really magical community.

Where do you love to grab a drink in Philadelphia?
Superette in Passyunk Square! It’s the cutest spot!! They have great wine, cocktails, and small plates, and they close at 10—which keeps me on my best behavior and home at a reasonable hour.
