Rebecca Ebner initially didn’t expect to be so involved in her family’s sawmill, Manayunk Timber, when she took on the role of social media and customer relations. She’s now hands-on with the timber itself, helping her father and business partner Steve Ebner, process the wood that comes into the mill. Manayunk Timber is Philadelphia’s only operating sawmill. The sawmill’s focus is reclaimed wood from Philadelphia’s industrial past as well as hardwoods from the city’s backyards and sidewalks. They also have a full fabrication shop and do custom work for people’s homes and businesses. Manayunk Timber has been operating since the late 80s, but has been at their current location for 13 years. They have more recently added a bakery, mini forest, coffee roaster, bookstore, and an art and home goods showroom called Umbria Arts. You can visit Rebecca and her dog Maurice at the yard – they’re there every day except Sunday.
We asked Rebecca to tell us about a few of her favorite spots around Philly.
