Matthew Addonizio opened Approved Textiles with partner Loran Grishow-Schade on Fabric Row in 2024, the first fabric shop to open on the famous street in years. A former woodworker, Addonizio had the opportunity to pursue his passion for clothing and textiles during the pandemic, and attended Xtant, a global textile event in Spain shortly thereafter. This allowed him to broaden his connections in the industry, meet sustainable weavers, and plant the seeds for what was to become Approved Textiles. The shop is both a fabric store focusing on sustainable, high quality materials, and a community hub with workshops in darning, sashiko stitching, and hand sewing. Addonizio’s genderless clothing brand, Matthew Addonizio, uses traditional techniques and natural materials, and adheres to the values of the slow fashion movement.
