WHAT’S GOOD: HALLE BALLARD

Halle Ballard is a sculptor, illustrator, and animator. Born in Philadelphia and raised between here and Nashville, Ballard returned to Philadelphia to attend University of the Arts, graduating in 2019. Ballard’s large-scale, papier-mache sculptures examine the functionality of women’s bodies, the physicality of athletes, and the banality of everyday objects with exaggeration and humor. She has made sculptural work for musicians like Empath, Jeff the Brotherhood, and Tierra Whack. She has shown work in galleries like Space 1026 and Fairmount House Gallery, where she has an upcoming show in June. In her free time she enjoys playing frisbee, watching sports with friends, and drawing portraits of reality tv stars.
