Gibbs Connors began his career in sign painting in Troy, New York and moved to Philadelphia in the 1980s. His work is everywhere in the city, and so precise one may not even realize it’s hand painted. La Colombe, DiBruno Brothers, the Wanamaker Building, Bluebond Guitars, exhibition graphics for the PMA, The Barnes Foundation, Fergie’s Pub, High Street, the iconic Harbison’s Milk Bottle. The list goes on and on. Pretty much anywhere there’s hand painted gold leaf lettering on a door, or big hand painted letters on the side of a building in the Philadelphia area, there’s a good chance that it’s Gibbs Connors’ work. In addition to being a prolific sign painter, Connors is also a collector of vintage Volkswagen buses. He lives in West Mount Airy.
