Drew Waldo owns Lot 49 Books, a new and used bookstore located in Fishtown. Drew’s idea to open a bookstore came during the pandemic, when a friend’s punk house in South Philly, usually used to host shows, became available. Inspired by other DIY house-based bookstores, Drew took a chance and opened Lot 49. Support from the South Philly community made the unconventional shop a success, and Drew was able to move locations to a commercial retail space on Girard Ave in 2023. The shop hosts readings, book signings, book launches, and art and music events, and is open every day.
